These types of carbon filters typically use activated charcoal (carbon) which creates negative ions attracting impurities and neutralizing odor molecules in the air.
Charcoal contains very small pores within its structure and has an incredibly large surface area (BET surface area =1500m/g). The activated charcoal in a carbon filter can remove or neutralize unpleasant odors before they leave the grow room.

How to Choose the best Carbon Filter for grow tent?
A carbon filter is used in the grow room for removing old air and replacing it with fresh air. It also helps to get rid of any smells that may be coming from your plants or other products you are growing. They can help you to get rid of odors so that there are no bad smells in your grow tent while you’re growing plants or other products.
Carbon filters work better than some other types because they actually clean the air instead of just filtering it. If you want to buy a new carbon filter then keep reading to find out how to choose the best one for your needs!
Air Flow (CFM)
The more CFM (cubic feet per minute), the easier the fan will be able to remove old air and replace it with fresh air, as well as remove smells from your grow tent. As a general rule of thumb, you should have about 4-5 times the grow space in CFM.
Filtration
Carbon filters will work better than some other types because they actually clean the air instead of just filtering it. Make sure that you check out how often you need to replace or clean your filter (if at all) when buying one. Some manufacturers recommend every month while others suggest every 2-3 months depending on use. This is usually based on its filtration properties; more expensive ones will last longer but may cost more upfront.
Size
Make sure that you check the size of your fan to make sure that it will fit correctly in your grow tent. You must also match the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of the fan size to the carbon filter’s needs; If you buy a 600 CFM fan but only have a 200 CFM carbon filter, it won’t be able to pull the air out of the tent quickly enough. Look for high-quality products that will last longer and are also affordable so that you don’t have to replace them anytime soon.
What size carbon filter for 10×10 room?
Carbon filters, also known as exhaust fans and grow tent fans, can help you to remove smells from your grow room or home. They will pull the air out of the grow room and then replace it with fresh air, which is needed for your plants to be healthy.
There are many different sizes and shapes of carbon filters available on the market today for purchase. The best kind of carbon filter for a 10 x 10 room should have at least 600 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) because this means that they can efficiently replace all of the old air in your room very quickly without letting any extra bad odors leak back through.
Be sure to find high-quality and durable products so that they don’t break quickly after just a few uses. You should also find a carbon filter with at least double the CFM as your fan to make sure it can fully replace all of the air in the room with fresh, clean air.
what size carbon filter for a 4×4 grow tent?
Find out what size carbon filter you need for a 4 x 4 grow tent or space by multiplying the length times width of your room’s dimensions. For example, if you have a 3 x 3 tent then you would need a 12 cubic foot per minute (CFM) fan in order to properly replace all of the old air in the room within just a few minutes. You also need to make that this number is at least half of the length that you have in CFM.
What size carbon filter for 2 x 4 grow tent?
Find out what size carbon filter you need for a 2 x 4 grow tent or space by multiplying the length times width of your room’s dimensions. For example, if you have a 3 x 3 tent then you would need a 12 cubic foot per minute (CFM) fan in order to properly replace all of the old air in the room within just a few minutes. You also need to make that this number is at least half of the length that you have in CFM.
Budget
As I mentioned before, there are different levels of quality with these filters/fans which can affect how often you need to change or clean them. This usually affects their price as well so keep this in mind when deciding on your budget. You should also consider other factors, such as if you need to run more than one fan or carbon filter at the same time.
Noise Level
Some filters are quieter than others so keep this in mind depending on where you will be using it and how often you plan on running it. If you place them near a TV or bed, they may make noise that can disturb you while the fans are working. The last thing you want is for your plants to suffer because of poor air circulation due to a noisy fan!
Dimensions
You must also match the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of the fan size to the carbon filters; If you buy a 600 CFM fan but only have a 200 CFM carbon filter, it won’t be able to pull the air out of the tent quickly enough.
Where to put carbon filter in grow room?
You should also make sure that the fan and carbon filter you choose can fit properly in your room. Look for those that will be able to extend outwards as far as possible (longer exhaust ducts) or upwards (taller fans). You want your carbon filters to fully cover all of the walls and other surfaces in the grow space so that no smells slip by them.
Step 1: Locate one end of the rubber hose on top of the fan and then place it about 4 inches below where you tapered off one end. Place another strip of tape across this end to hold it tightly against the hose. Make sure that just enough ventilation is still occurring through the cut area so that air can still escape but odors cannot come back through.
Step 2: Take the tape off of one end and stretch out the rest of the rubber hose so it is as long as possible (but make sure you can still fit it in your tent). Tape this end securely to seal any holes or cracks that might be letting air escape before it reaches the carbon filter.
Step 3: Find a way to attach one end of your ducting (if you haven’t already done so) and then attach the other end onto the carbon filter’s input/outlet port. Make sure not to tighten them too tightly together, just enough that they will stay firmly attached during use. You also want to leave a little bit of space between the carbon filters output and intake ports so that there isn’t any back pressure created.
Step 4: Finally, tape or screw the fan to the top of your grow tent so that it hangs at least 1-3 inches above your plant’s canopy level (tape is easier). Use quick ties around the legs of your carbon filter and then attach them to nearby objects for extra support. You can also use these quick ties to adjust how close or far away from the canopy the fans are sitting.
How long does a carbon filter last?
Carbon filters last for around 6 months, which can vary depending on the grower’s environment. For example, if there is a lot of dust in your air or you are running several carbon filters at once then it will require more frequent cleaning. If you maintain them properly though, they should last for between 4-6 months before needing to be cleaned/replaced. Some growers replace their carbon filter every 3 months just to err on the side of caution while others only do it every few years (yes, years). It all depends on your individual situation and how well you take care of yours!
How to clean carbon filter?
Keeping your filters clean is essential for them to work properly. This will depend on the type of filter you’re using but there are some common steps that can be followed regardless of what’s being used.
First of all, you’ll want to remove the carbon from inside your filter and wipe it down with a damp cloth or paper towel. Make sure not to get too much water in there otherwise, it may damage the filter!
Once this step is done, leave both filtration mediums out in the sun for an hour or more. This will help evaporate any excess moisture trapped inside which can also affect performance. After an hour or two, you should be able to put everything back together without problems.
Where to buy carbon filter?
You can buy carbon filters online on amazon, you can test them.
Conclusion
All in all, carbon filters are one of the safest and most effective ways to keep your grow tent fresh and free of odors. If you make sure that you check the following factors when buying new ones (CFM needs; size; budget; filtration; noise level; etc.) then you’ll be able to find the perfect product for your grow room!
What Types there are carbon filter for grow tent?
There are quite a few different types of these filters. While some are better than others, they also vary in price and effectiveness.
Activated carbon filters
Activated carbon is usually more effective at getting rid of odors because the extremely small particles which attach to smells effectively trap them inside the filter. This type is typically used by air conditioning or refrigeration technicians to remove moisture from the air or by chemical laboratories to clean up dangerous chemicals. They have the best filtration properties out of all three types listed here so they’re normally more expensive as well. Unfortunately, this type has a lower airflow rate than other types so it’s not necessarily recommended for use with grow rooms since you’ll need to run fans 24/7 to keep the air flowing.
Mechanical Filters
These filters are usually less expensive but also have a lower filtration rate compared to activated carbon ones. They use different types of fiber or gauze to catch most particles, but these filters cannot trap organic compounds which contribute most to smells. They’re usually better for cutting out larger particles such as dust and lint from your grow tent but will allow the smallest particulates through. Despite this shortcoming, they’re still effective things that can help with odors!
Electrostatic
Electrostatic carbon is a fairly new invention so not many people actually know about it yet. I haven’t seen any detailed reviews on it so I can’t really comment on its benefits or downsides. The advantage of using this type is that it traps odors through static charge. The carbon particles are electrically charged with either + or – polarity, attracting them to combine together into larger particles that trap organic compounds for good!
This type uses the same principle as ionizers but without the negative side effects which you’ll see in my Epic Grow Room Ionizer Review post! This device can be useful for keeping your tent smelling fresh so I’m mentioning it here. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a reliable source selling these devices so if anyone knows where to buy them / has one they’d like to share their opinion on, please let me know!
Ozone generator
For those who don’t know, ozone generators work as a sort of “super filter”. They’re even better at catching smells than activated carbon filters but they’re often too expensive for most growers. Ozone is a very powerful oxidizer so you have to be careful when using these because it can literally “burn” organic compounds which cause odors! While this would normally be a good thing, the problem is that burnt molecules actually give off an odor all their own and can cause problems in your to grow room if not vented properly.
If you have the money, then I definitely recommend getting one of these ionizers! They’re great for eliminating bad smells from your tent and also sterilizing the air through oxidation! Unfortunately, they’re quite expensive so they’re not really worth it for small-scale growers.
Carbon filter with H202 generator
A lot of people don’t know this, but ozone generators can be combined with carbon filters to clean the air and kill smells at the same time! This is done by passing purified oxygen (H2O) through an ozone generator which you’ll then want to bubble into your grow tent. The best part about this is that it’s also very cheap to do, especially compared to buying a new ionizer. All you’ll need is a compressor pump, tubing, and some bottles of hydrogen peroxide (H202).
In conclusion
Activated carbon filters are the best way to go for most growers. They’re fairly cheap and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, allowing you to choose one that fits your needs best. If you live in a small apartment with people who would be bothered by strong odors then stick to mechanical or electrostatic filters instead. Ozone generators may also help with smells but they’re usually too expensive unless you know someone selling theirs second-hand 🙂

Can i wash carbon filter for air purifier?
If the carbon filter is disposable it can’t be washed. You will need to buy a new one after using it for awhile. What I do with mine is let them soak in hot water with bleach. This gets rid of smells, mildew and other gross stuff that builds up on them over time.
What size carbon filter for 10×10 room?
For a 10×10 tent, you will need 2 filters. The size depends on your ventilation system.
I had to take care of the smell in my house. To do this, I ordered a filter with an ac infinity exhaust fan.
